Since 2018 I have been working on projects related to Augmented Reality (AR) for wearable devices. As this technology stills under development and there's no standard definitions to be applied in order to provide interesting experiences for the users, our clients asked us to find out how should be that experience.
Design & Development.
So that, we did product benchmarks, desktop researches and related readings to realize the current state of art of the AR technology. After that we made an usability test using an AR wearable device and we analyzed the people's feedbacks. Then we put all those findings together and we started ideation sessions with a multidisciplinary team through several AR pain points and use cases. We gathered everything and we designed 4 different AR concepts: conventional, unconventional, light and powerful. So we can try to find the sweet spot among them, getting closer to an ideal solution.
We made prototypes aiming new usability tests and we collected user's insights from 2 different countries.

Results.
After analysing the results we found out 2 ideal users experiences that could be combined into different types of AR devices. At the end we made concept videos about these ideal experiences and we delivered research reports and design guidelines for AR using wearable devices.
In addition we published a paper on the 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, with some findings we got from this project. You can access here.

Role.
My main role on this project was UX Designer, so I was able to get the insights from the ideation sessions we ran to design all four prototypes, attending different needs. Then I help to plan, run and analyse the usability tests we did on Brazil and South Korea.
